The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has launched a new, revised ESA50 form in order to make applications for the Employment Support Allowance (ESA) easier for customers to complete.
Changes include colour coding the mental health section so that it is clearly separate from the physical conditions section. This will help ensure customers only complete the sections that are relevant to their conditions.
It is also much clearer that customers should include information on how their conditions vary. Understanding varying and fluctuating conditions is a vital part of the assessment and this change will help us work with customers to explain their conditions during a face-to-face assessment.
On every page of the physical and mental assessment sections it is also clearly states that customers should only declare they can do an activity if they can do it safely, reliably and as often as needed as well as in a reasonable length of time. This is to encourage customers to include as much information on their conditions as possible.
More information on what medical evidence is helpful and what to expect at a face-to-face assessment is also included in the form.
